Rim Country Sr/Community Center (RCSC) Update
On March 17, 2020 Dick Blomgren, the Rim Country’s Sr/Community Center’s board president sent an email announcing, “We'll be closing the center for all activities starting March 18, 2020 until April 30,2020. We will continue the MOW deliveries during that period.”
Without missing a beat, Dick adapted the Center’s services and facility to federal and state guidelines. This situation has meant taking our service model built on close personal interaction and flipping it to one that practices responsible social distancing, health and safety while still providing critical services to those who rely on us. Of course, this means the usually busy Center is eerily quiet. We are looking forward to the time when we can come together again.
Our services may look a little different, but they have not stopped. As long as people need us, the RCSC is here—No Matter What. Our dedicated office team and our gloved and masked Meals on Wheels drivers who provide wellness checks and nutritious meals to our shut-in and elderly are here for you. A BIG THANK YOU to all our essential service organizations especially our health care providers around our country and that includes our fearless team of Meals on Wheels drivers: Phyllis Ault, Kari & Travis Branam, Kim & Bob Buck, Sherry Conrad, Michele Dorough, Debbie & Rob Heinemann, Janie Miranda, Carol & Jerry Stant, Yohanna Stanford, and George & Shauna Taylor.
Our yearly fundraiser, the Meal on Wheels Walkathon had been scheduled for May 14th, but due to COVID 19 had to be cancelled. While we have asked members and volunteers to stay home for their safety and the health of our community, we are so grateful to folks who have continued to support the Meals on Wheels program with monetary donations.
Remember NACOG, the agency we serve under only provides about 30% of our funding for the Meal on Wheels program. Addie’s Thrift Store usually supplies about 30% of the Meals on Wheels needed revenue. That leaves the community with a 40% balance. We ask for your continued support as we serve the community. Our expenses have not decreased. We need your support more than ever. We aren’t going anywhere and we are counting on your steadiness as well. We know this has hit a lot of folks really hard, but if you are in a position to support us, we could really use it. To all of you—our compassionate and generous supporters– we thank you.
Penny Burch, our board member who coordinates the Empty Panty Food Project for the Meals on Wheels program would like to remind everyone we take food boxes to our shut-ins quarterly. We always need non-perishable protein rich food items such as: canned chicken or tuna, Dinty Moore stews, Chef Boyardee meals, chunky soups, peanut butter, protein bars, Carnation Instant Breakfast, Pop Tarts, jars of gravy and pet food. Uncooked pasta and beans are not suitable as our clients have access to microwaves only.
Although our dining room currently does not offer dine-in dining, we offer weekday “TO GO” lunch service 11AM to Noon, Monday through Friday. Choose from the Center’s $6 Daily Meal and Salad or order from our Take & Bake Menu. (Posted at www.rimccenter.org) You must call a day ahead (928) 535-5525 to reserve your lunch. Note: Monday lunch must be ordered by 8:30am Monday. Call us when you arrive at the Center and we’ll bring your lunch out to you. We take credit cards, check or cash in advance or at time of pickup.
We can’t wait for our doors to be open again. It is a great place to volunteer and play. We are in this with you. At the end of the day, we know we will come through this stronger, together.
